2010 Seven A Side Rugby Champions

The Old Thomians won the 21st Annual Seven A Side Alumni Rugby tournament in Cerritos, California on Sunday, 10/10/10.  Both A & B teams won all their matches up to the semi finals in grand style beating alumni from Royal, Ananda, & Trinity.  The Thomian defense was stingy - allowing no team to cross the try line.  The team displayed excellent  team work, commitment and employed sound strategies at every game to win.  Excellent Rugby was dished out, and the Thomians enlightened the field with some spectacular moves, which saw the ball being worked right down the line and the fullback sprinting in to score.  Amila once again played a major role in steering the team through the early rounds right up to the semi finals - where he suffered an injury.  Stalwart Muzni Sufi-Ismail was also in the thick of the action, causing a lot of headaches to all opponents.  Ryan Jayetileke took over when Amila left, kicking the winning penalty in a shootout when the semi final against St. Peters was deadlocked after extra time. The Thomians were quite spent after the semi final, but summoned their last reserves of energy to beat Ananda in the final by 12 to 7  points. Amila and Rajindra  scored a try each and Ryan converted one of them. Ryan was adjudged man of the tournament. Suraine De Dodwell Captained the Thomian team.
